The World Council
of Optometry has a fellowship program for startup institutions. Prof.
Anthony P Cullen an internationally renowned educationist, vice-chairman
of the Education Committee, professor of Optometry, biology and Systems
Device Engineering, was deputed for a period of four weeks to visit schools
of Optometry in India viz: The Elite School Of Optometry at Chennai, the
Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry at Hyderabad, H.H.K College of Optometry
in Mumbai and the Bharati Vidyapeeth School of Optometry in Pune.
He expressed appreciation
of the pattern followed at the Elite School Of Optometry and confirmed
that most institutions in the United States and over the World considered
its training as per international standards in Optometry. H.H.K
College of Optometry which is only in the first year is planned correctly
and showed promise of right development.
The College had arranged
a felicitation for Dr. Anthony P. Cullen. It was a pleasant get together
and the well-wishers of the College also had the first Opportunity to
go around its recently completed premises. It occupies the 3rd floor of the building of the Ramwadi Free Eye Hospital, which will be on the 1st
and 2nd floors. The College started in August 2000 and the Hospital is
expected to start by the end of 2001.

In his address Prof.
Anthony P. Cullen, said that he was happy to see the keenness and enthusiasm
that prevailed at Hyderabad and Mumbai, which have just begun. He said
that all over the world schools must start with a humble beginning and
firstly get established, then resources get added slowly during the development
period. Both these schools promise to develop on the right lines Prof.
Cullen then explained the aims of the WCO and the assistance they would
be happy to give all developing Optometry institutions world over.

The Management of
the College expressed with gratitude the role played by the Hospital Trust
in contributing the premises of the College specifically at the request
of the Management and co-operating with them to establish the College
firmly in every possible way. The management also used this opportunity
to sincerely thank all its donors from the trade and industry.
Annual
Indian Optometic Association (9th October)
The Indian Optometric
Associatio's Annual Conference was held in Kolapur on the 10th,
11th and 12th of November. Faculty and students
of H. H. K. College attended the conference. |
