ABOUT LOTUS COLLEGE

The Optometric Education Society (O.E.S) was formed in 1995 with the main objective to promote optometric education in Mumbai. The world looks upon Mumbai as the business capital of India, but till the year 2000, it lacked an institution offering a degree program in Optometry. When the world was celebrating the end of the millennium in December 1999, an enthusiastic group of optometrists toiled hard to establish a school of optometry in Mumbai.

The College of Optometry was established on the premises of the Ramwadi Eye Hospital in August 2000. The Lotus College of Optometry (formerly H.H.K) now occupies the third floor of the hospital covering 3000sq feet.

 
Class Room and Laboratory
The Optometric Education Society (O.E.S) was formed in 1985.It was established 25 years ago by Mr.Manu Subedar a well know economist of India. The Hospital today has busy out patient department of about 300 patients everyday. The unit is a self sufficient one with all diagnostic procedures, operation theater and an inpatient department. 40 ophthalmologists of different specialties visit the hospital
Mumbai Eye Care Campaign

Mumbai Eye Care Campaign: (2009-2013) A refractive error project for the underprivileged population of Mumbai City. Through this project, 1.5 lakh beneficiaries would be reached out every year by way of Vision Centres established in 12 slum pockets of Mumbai. By the Campaign mode, awareness on eye care would be generated for the entire population. This project of the College is in conjunction with Sight Savers International, and is sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank, UK.

Mumbai Childhood Blindness program
It is one of the programs of Lotus Eye Hospital in partnership with ORBIS International. Lotus College of Optometry is supporting for outreach and OPD services. It is a two-year project for childhood blindness eradication among street children. The program not only includes examination and treatment for children. But involves awareness generation, training of mothers, health workers, and paramedical personnel also. CMEs for ophthalmologists, optometrists, pediatricians and general practitioners for raising awareness and detection of causes for treatable and preventable childhood blindness. The hospital has established an exclusive pediatric ophthalmic ward. About 0.1 million children are to be screened in this project for Ocular Morbidity. And, at least 1% of these children will benefit from the Low vision facility.
